The lyrics to the song are pretty self explanitory as to the meaning, in this classic battle of good and evil god and satan compete in a surfing contest. Satan, of corse being evil is better at all cool things. Then god, sick of this challenges satan to prove good will win and they bet souls on it. So satan shows off, god gets burnt by both the sun and satan, until god realizes a loophole in the contest, surfing is hanging ten, and so the winner needs to hang ten (ten toes), god has ten toes, being manlike, satan however does not, satan has cloven feet, like a horse, meaning only four 'toes' and thus he can only hang for and so looses the contest. The recitation of "GO GO SATAN GO" at the end is there for mroe or less humor, cheering for the underdog, and has a great tradition of many other surfing songs and films screaming "GO GO _____ GO!" Also the fact that this song is about surfing sets up an interesting parallell to "guitar was the case" which was a homage to Dick Dale, the writer of a lot of surfing rock and roll. Hello Hello also has a surfing song beat to it. I have no idea what the connection is, but I thought Id point that out. The DEvil is also im many aspects a parody of THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA. IN that song the devil was also looking for a soul to steal and competed against the forces of good using a fiddle, an instrument common and cool to country music. By updating it and giving the song a more modern style they change the fiddle to a surf board and make the song about rock and roll instead of country music.
